Is There One Simple Formula for Career Happiness?

The age of connectivity has opened so many doors for our society.

Looking at this from a purely work-life standpoint, it has given us the chance to pave our own path in a way that may have never been possible just a decade or two earlier.

But this new age has also empowered the conversation (and rightly so) that you should only follow your passions: "If you're not happy in your professional life, change it. You have the power to do so."

I shared this image on LinkedIn last week, which delves into a “simple formula for career happiness,” and it received a huge response -- some extremely positive and others were more skeptical, which I completely understand.

The "if you're not happy, change it" mantra is inspiring, but it doesn't really give anyone a clear roadmap.

So with all these separate voices telling you why you should be happy in your job and why you shouldn’t settle for less, but with a scarcity of voices to tell you how to get to that point, how do you figure out what you want and need in a career?

With this piece, I have one goal in mind: With YOUR help, I want to put together a piece on what you WANT and NEED in a career to make you HAPPY. I'll be collecting your responses and turning it into another piece (hopefully a guide of sorts!) right here on LinkedIn.

Let's put together a list that can go beyond the "not happy, change something" conversation and help someone, anyone, reflect on their career in a responsible way!

Great people or managers you work with can make you happy and content in your career but of course, with your job having a room for improving your skills and experience as an employee. Sometimes, even when you don't really love what you do but if you are surrounded with right people it makes you passionate and positive doing it everyday. Paycheck and company is the least since you can earn that wherever you are but hardly you can find great people to work with no matter how much you love your job and how much you get from it.
