Tech boom is back and so are budgets!

I was fortunate to attend #VMworld this week in San Francisco. This is my third year coming to this fantastic event. As far as my schedule goes for tech conferences, this is one of the larger events in addition to RSA in February held in the very same venue, The Moscone Center. Lots of great announcements to aid organizations in their journey to the cloud, software defined networking and mobility. Including some key alignments to these efforts from Trend Micro. New companies I have never heard of getting my attention regarding the solutions they are bringing to market to support the entire VMware software defined data center strategy.

One thing that really stood out at RSA and at VMworld this week was the buzz of conference goers and the attitudes associated with spending money on technologies to advance the business forward. I did pick up on the sentiment that it had to be the right technology that fits their strategy and their business requirements, which is a given. Budget was still a factor but less than in the past two conferences. I thought RSA might have been an anomaly but VMworld definitely confirmed that the tech train is rolling ahead full steam again.

During the GFC (Global Financial Crisis) many of my conversations across the globe with customers as well as organizations looking at security solutions were focused on budget freezes/cuts and their inability to get the latest tech in the door. What was refreshing this year is that I didn't hear near as much of that talk as I spoke to customers. In fact, the tech vibe and boom definitely feels back and we are most definitely coming out of the recession hangover. Not only were attendance numbers up this year which is a good indicator that organizations are spending money on continuous learning for their staff but it appears the purse strings are also opening back up again for technologists to acquire infrastructure and tools to change the way they deliver services. These are exciting times for all indeed.

I definitely agree JD. The customers are stepping up and the vendors are rolling out the red carpet. Great event VMware!
