Would you hire someone who looks like this?

Speaker, author and media personality known for his Think Like A Black Belt leadership series Jim Bouchard, posted the above picture on Facebook asking the following question; Would you give this man a job? BE HONEST! Why or why not?

It was an interesting question that not surprisingly sparked a lengthy debate that is still raging as we speak.

What immediately came to mind for me, was an interview I did with Jim and Larry Winget a couple of years ago when Larry made the following observation regarding becoming a target of bullying . . . you can always spot the kid who is likely to become a target because their parents dress them (or allow them to dress) differently without parental guidance, and without consideration of how they will fit in.

In short, while Larry was saying that bullying in any form is wrong plain and simple, he suggested that we can sometime exacerbate our situation by intentionally standing out.

Now some of the people who commented did not share this sentiment, suggesting that if they were to hire this gentleman they would expect that their current staff would embrace them based on what is inside as opposed to how they look.

Others of course expressed the opinion that "in general businesses hire to fill needs in their existing business", and not to "find employees that they can alter their business to suit".

Given the breadth of the divide between those who say it shouldn't matter and those who say it does, what would you do if this individual showed up at your place of business seeking employment?

What if upon reviewing the person's resume it clearly demonstrated that they were - at least from an education standpoint - qualified for the position. Would you hire them, and if you didn't would that be grounds for them to sue you for discrimination?

If I saw this picture before meeting him, no. I wouldn't give him an interview. If he walked in and wanted a job, it would depend on how the interview went. That is sad to say, but you asked for honesty.

Absolutely: depends on the job in question.

If I could make him a home worker and bill him at $150 an hour or more.
