How to Stay Accountable on LinkedIn with Actions Taken

How to Stay Accountable on LinkedIn with Actions Taken

LinkedIn often quietly rolls out updates and overnight a new feature was added to Profile Views. In addition to seeing the number of Profile Views each week, we now get a birds eye view of our actions, to show that we feeding our Profile. I love this.

If you like a little gamification or competition with yourself or your team, here is a number to track. Just go to Profile Views and notice the number for Actions taken.

It is broken down into different types of action so you can see what you are achieving each week. It can also be used to gauge which actions are leading to more Profile views.

In the example above, actions included connecting to people, adding skills, editing positions and joining groups. This reminder and score can encourage you to take action each week. Start with some planning and create a check list of tasks that align with business goals and purpose of using LinkedIn.

We cannot control who views our Profile, but by looking at other people, natural curiosity kicks in and often people will look at you in return. Therefore is this an accurate metric to track? It is useful but doesn't necessarily mean anything concrete.

We can however control our own actions, so look at what you can do each week to build your network, tweak your profile and communicate. Feel free to request our free LinkedIn templates to help with this.

Keep in mind that only Premium members get to see details of who has viewed their Profile over 90 days, where as Basic (free) members only see the last 5 people. Those with the Basic account will see the overview (as below) but won't be able to click on details unless you upgrade. Try hovering over each week and see the stats change, so this may indeed be enough. Do let me know what you see and if you find it useful.

Are you excited by this feature? How will you use it?

PS I don't recommend posting too often, but this update needed to be shared while it is fresh! So forgive me for sharing two articles in the same day!

PPS This feature is now being publicly released across the board so look out for it if you don't have early access. Read more from LinkedIn on their announcement blog almost a week after this!

I first noticed this feature on my account a week or so ago and did not really think that much about it. The "slip-streaming" of features is difficult on all of us and it's a patchwork. I asked LinkedIn and I was told that they roll features out by "server", 10% of the users, pause and evaluate, then 30%, then 100%.

I'm jealous! I don't have it yet. (I just checked - having been away from the internet for 10 whole days!) I'll use this post in my "Updates" webinar tomorrow! Thanks Jo :)
