Why LinkedIn publisher is like a scrum

Hi everybody, i am very excited to be writing my first Post here on Linkedin!

This brand new feature - LinkedIn Publisher - sounds attractive for many of us, Bloggers and Content Marketers.

At the same time, i see two opposite forces pushing one against the other just like a Rugby scrum: they are the Pros and the Cons ;-)

The Pros

By writing your Posts on LinkedIn you will get some benefits:

  1. You get more exposure --> more chances to become influential.
  2. Being "followed" as a content publisher --> i.e. reaching a broader audience.
  3. You can share your Post on other Social Networks.
  4. Posts will appear on Google's results.

The Cons

On the other hand, writing "fabulous Posts" will not guarantee you success.

Moreover, you'd better take into account also negative implications...

  1. The platform you are writing on is NOT yours.
  2. If you are already posting on LinkedIn you may over promote yourself.
  3. You risk a conflict of content with your own Blog.
  4. Blogging is time consuming; writing implies promoting and interacting on Social Networks.

What kind of content via LinkedIn Publisher?

Of course there is no magic formula for everybody.

You just have to take your time to set your target audience and define your content strategy.

As for myself, i'd like to share with you my purpose and i hope that you will find it useful to inspire your decisions.

I will be writing in English and i will cover the same topics of my italian Blog (www.socialmediascrum.com).

More specifically i will offer fresh content about:

  • Social CRM and Social Customer Care showing best practices
  • Content Marketing/Blogging
  • Online Reputation/Crisis Management

Those who ignore Social Customer Care make the same mistake made in the 90's with the first Call Centres

This is one of my favorite quotes...what's your thought about it?

Will you use LinkedIn Publisher? How?

Please Follow me here on LinkedIn to get my future Posts.

I've done three posts now, and what I notice is that I'm getting more views and comments from published posts than posting updates to the groups I belong to. What seems to be working for me is to re-purpose posts from my blog onto publisher. I'm interested in finding out if anyone has suggestions on how to "refresh" a published post (kind of like re-tweeing?) so that it gets more views over time. Thanks for the good info Paolo Fabrizio

Hi Simone Lucchina, i'm so glad that you liked my Post. This new feature is supposed to be progressively available to every LinkedIn user. However, you can claim it in advance here --> http://specialedition.linkedin.com/publishing/ . I hope you'll find it useful ;).

Hello Paolo Fabrizio. I think this is a (first) great post. I would like to ask you if publisher is available only for premium user or instead for everyone, because for me nothing has changed.
