Be Kind

I don't know about you, but I have found this 2014 an extremely trying year on all fronts.

Business, Personal, Family, Charity, Volunteer and yes even with myself.

While I believe positive affirmations, goal setting, being organised and achievement focused is extremely important. These can all create a empty vortex where we loose sight of the more important things in life....

"TAKING CARE OF OURSELVES AND OUR FAMILY"

All the success, money and fame that being the key person of expertise in our field will never replace the unconditional love, support, comfort and joy that we will receive back from them.

I am reminded of an article I read some time ago called "The top 5 regrets people have on their deathbed." written in a blog post by a Ms Bonnie Ware who worked for many years with the dying.

1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

A wonderful woman I met at last year's Pro blogger conference called Clare Fitzgerald has written an article on her blog called " Resisting Change? Try This Instead." Where she shares how we all struggle with what we "think" is expected and that niggling little voice telling us we should be moving in another direction.

2. I wish I didn’t work so hard.

This is something that most "Entrepreneurs" do well is work!

We are so fired up with passion, vision and dreams that we strive ever forward, juggling 100 things at once to eventually succeed, as long as we do not burn out before hand.

Chris Ducker has many words of wisdom that all entrepreneurs can learn from, this blog article in particular is excellent "It’s NOT Just About Me, or YOU!"

3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.

Here, I'm going to share with you my personal experience.

My Nana was dying, my youngest aunt gave me the dreaded call. My inner voice told me that I had a little time. So, what did I do. I rushed to the nearest florist and bought a bunch of roses that smelt gorgeous. I rushed to Mount Olivet Hospital, as I held my Nana's hand I sprinkled the rose petals about her head and told her how much she had meant to me. How I cherished living with her, the wisdom she imparted to me and the unconditional love that she always gave me. NEVER, be frightened to tell people how much they mean to you!

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

I find this very challenging and can relate to how difficult it is to juggle family, work and myself. Can I tell you, I spent three years not connecting with anyone on a meaningful level....it's lonely and empty.

Put simply, don't do it!

5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.

How are you going with this?

Not on a superficial level, like my Aussie heritage of "She'll be right, mate!"

I mean really going with a inner sense of happiness? Entrepreneurs neglect this part, Super Mums in business do and Type A's. We get so lost in the achievement of goals, our families and those around us, it's often only after a major reality check we reflect and acknowledge...

"I'm not happy."

Find what makes YOU happy and do it on a regular basis. BOOK it in. You will be a better mother, father, son or daughter for doing so.

"My moral to all this today...... BE KIND to yourself!"

Great post Amanda and timely for me as I pull myself up out of a relaxing 3 day break and dive straight back into working on my businesses. I totally agree that 2014 has been a tough year and for me it's been riddled with self doubt. It's not easy to give yourself a pat on the back for your successes when it seems that there is still so much to do. However I must say that I always prioritise my family and I am a resounding success as a Wife and Mum I am grateful that my work allows those aspects of my life to flourish. Thanks again!

I'm glad that you brought that up, Amanda. I'll have to tone down the 'working so much that I don't have time to catch up with the important people' thing that I am doing right now!
